Reaching Agreement Through Mediation

Divorce mediation is becoming an increasingly popular alternative to a traditional divorce. The way mediation works is that a trained neutral party facilitates and aids the spouses or domestic partners in coming to their own agreement, which settles the issues in their divorce, including:

• Physical custody–child custody, co-parenting and parenting schedules—where will the children live, with whom do they spend holidays
• Legal custody—how are major life decisions made? For example, religion, dental/orthodontia, college
